Located in the heart of beautiful rural Dorset in the peaceful hamlet of Woolland, Ellwood Cottages are outstanding conversions of three traditionally built barns, in a courtyard setting.
Named after Dorset writers Hardy, Barnes and Blyton, the wheelchair-accessible cottages have been lovingly restored to provide comfortable, tastefully furnished, year-round, single storey self catering holiday accommodation for disabled people, their families, friends and carers. Specialist equipment , rise and recline chair, fully height adjustable electric profiling bed, air pressure mattress, mobile hoist, shower chair, shower chair commode ( fixed/ removable arm and recliner), toilet raiser, perching stool and much more is all available free of charge for guests to use.
Outdoors there are spacious landscaped gardens , separate seating areas with tables and chairs for guests’ use providing stunning views across fields with farm animals and wildlife, to Bulbarrow Hill and Ibberton Hill.
The indoor heated splash pool has wide steps with handrails for easy access, a pool hoist for the less-abled, for use with guests own sling/harness and a poolside seating area with prior booking . PLEASE NOTE : Pool is open between April and the end of September.
For guests requiring additional relaxation or entertainment, there is a recreation/meeting room with numerous books,musical instruments and games for all ages.
IDEAL FOR FAMILY BOOKINGS !! We now have in addition to our three wheelchair-accessible cottages, a studio style apartment, which can be used on it's own or together with a cottage or cottages to accommodate additional family members, friends or carers.
Please note: The Stable is not wheelchair accessible.
Everywhere is fully wheelchair accessible. There are no steps and all doors have 760mm clear opening. All showers are wet-room style, kitchens have accessible hob and sink with front controls and 850mm wide x 350mm deep and 700mm high clear space under for wheelchair access. Light switches are at 1100mm and electrical sockets at 900mm. Push-pull doors for easy opening and closing rather than awkward handles to be turned.
